Karen Burgess Teaches the Art of Storytelling at Trial Skills Workshop presented by The International Academy of Trial Lawyers and VECINA
Karen Burgess, along with other fellows of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, served as a faculty member at the Academy’s Trial Skills Workshop. The Workshop focused on storytelling techniques and direct examination in immigration court. Presentations given by Academy Fellows focused on hands-on practice, which included developing a theme and theory of a case, client interviewing, and direct examination.
The Academy partnered with VECINA, a nonprofit with a mission to empower immigrant justice advocates through mentoring attorneys, educating communities, and mobilizing volunteers. VECINA’s pro bono teams have provided legal assistance to clients from at least 24 countries representing 26 different languages, including individuals and families from Afghanistan, Ukraine, and indigenous communities in Central America.
